Maria Virgínia Santos Teles Guerra Monteiro was born in Espinho on May 25, 1931. Daughter of the poet Oliveira Guerra, she graduated in Modern Languages and Literature from the Faculty of Letters of Porto and taught in secondary education. A bilingual poet, she has published: «Woman of Loth» (Sol XXI, Lisbon, 1992), «…Ribeiro, your indication» (Sol XXI, Lisbon, 1995), «O Silêncio Todo» (Universitária Editora, Lisbon, 2000) , «Ces Quelques Lettres Portugaises» (Ed. Lacour, Nîmes, 2002), «As Cinzas e as Brisas» (theme editions, Lisbon, 2002), «Precário Registo» (Universitária Editora, Lisbon, 2003), and «As Palavras , Este Canto, Este Rio» (Editora Ausência, Vila Nova de Gaia, 2004), as well as texts scattered throughout newspapers and magazines, such as: Brotéria and Sol XXI (Lisbon), Escritores de Gaia, Entre-Letras (Tomar), Saudade (Amarante), Leaves, Letters and Other Crafts (Aveiro), Alhucema (Spain, Granada) and Jalons (France, Vichy). It appears in the anthologies Contos (Sol XXI, Lisbon, 2003), Portuguese and Brazilian Poets (BLES, Rio de Janeiro, 1996), 100 years of Federico Garcia Lorca (Universitária Editora, Lisbon, 1998), Homage of Portuguese Poets (… ), Millenium (Universtária Editora, Lisbon, 2001) In Freedom (Garça Editores, Peso da Régua, 2004), Neruda, One Hundred Years Later (Universtária Editora, Lisbon, 2004), A Circulatura do Quadrado (Some of the Most Beautiful Sonnets of Poets Whose Motherland Is the Portuguese Language), (UNICEPE, Porto, 2004). With Idioteque, she published Canto Quântico (2014), one of the most outstanding voices of poetry in Porto. Already in her eighties, the poetess has published more than a dozen works and, despite her discretion, is one of the most undisputed authors of her generation.
