The “Tratar o cancro por tu” initiative by IPATIMUP (Institute of Pathology and Molecular Immunology of the University of Porto), which relies on the production of Idioteque, once again goes beyond the walls of science and laboratories to reach out to the population, seeking contribute to cancer literacy.
This time, with the support of Roche, it offers six Antena 1 podcasts – which can be heard on RTP Play – about cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment. With a weekly frequency and with the first podcast, which we now share, now available, these interviews expand the temporal and content spectrum of the initiative and anticipate a new cycle of in-person sessions that will start at the beginning of 2024.
Under the tutelage of Professor Manuel Sobrinho Simões and coordinated by Antena1 journalists Tiago Alves and Miguel Soares, the six podcasts focus on very concrete questions about cancer and aim to answer the main questions on the topic. These conversations will hopefully be available in the following chronology:

November 16th – «The Age Factor – Diagnosis up to and after 80», with Manuel Sobrinho Simões and Bárbara Parente;

November 23 – «Prevention and Early Detection – Which cancers can be prevented? What is the impact of screenings?”, with Nuno Marcos and Firmino Machado;

November 30th – «Diagnosis – Suspicions that are not confirmed. The role of biopsies», with José Carlos Machado and Fátima Carneiro;

December 7th – «Precision Medicine – What has changed in treatment. The analyzes and particularities of each patient», with Jorge Lima and Gabriela Fernandes);

December 14th – Heredity – «Genetic studies and family history», with Sérgio Castedo and Fátima Vaz;

December 21st – «The Success of Treatment – The patient’s place before, during and after», with Fernando Schmitt and Margarida Cruz.
