António José Salvador Coutinho was born in Espinho, in 1935, and has lived in Vila Nova de Famalicão since 1944. Lawyer, he graduated in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra as a volunteer student while working at the Mabor tire factory. He was a football and roller hockey player – defender of the Minho National Team. Holds the sporting merit medal awarded by the Famalicense Atlético Clube on November 12, 1956. He was president of the Congress of the Portuguese Pigeon Racing Federation and holds the Gold Medal of the same Federation. As a worker, he helped to raise the democratic awareness of workers before the 25th of April and, together with various unions, he developed, as a lawyer, actions to prepare them for citizenship (which resulted in him being subjected to two interrogations by the political police of the then regime). – PIDE/DGS). He started in poetry and prose with collaborations in several newspapers, namely Estrela do Minho, Estrela da Manhã, Notícias de Famalicão and Democracia do Norte. He was the creator of the 1st Literary Supplement of Notícias de Famalicão. He edited the first book of poems, Eu, in 1957. For more than 60 years he published novels, novellas, short stories and poetry. Estou a Saber Como Esperar-te is an anthology, celebrating a life also dedicated to verses. With Idioteque, he edited E o Sol abre a Janela (2014), a book of poetry.
