Manuel Andrade was born in Santo Tirso in 1969. Graduated in Psychology, he worked for several years. He was later the mentor and creator of two communication groups, where he worked with various names in national and international culture, such as José Saramago, António Lobo Antunes or Mikhail Gorbachev. Urbano Tavares Rodrigues, at the time of his first novel “Três Bichos te Esperam, Quatro te Comerão”, classified him as “a great new writer” and Pedro Barroso described him as “caustic and vertical, and that at the tip of a sharp pen of life makes the delicious exercise of discernment”. With Idioteque, he published Três Bichos Te Esperam Quatro Te Comerão (2014), a work, written in 2007, the result of a delayed psychoanalysis of a relationship that the writer – at the time a clinical psychologist – maintained with a dying man on a hospital stretcher: a wild and violent old man, inveterate groper of nurses’ asses, although at the same time philosophical and master of challenging mental drifts; Lugar de Um Deus que me Livre (2015), an immersion in the universe of a psychiatric hospital, Conde de Ferreira, where the author was working on the work for four months; Elogio dos Amantes Derradeiros (2016), a novel that is a poetic and overwhelming exultation about the wonder of living intensely the passion in every minute of our existence, without decorum or limitations, either in terms of the bodies or the mind; Minuto do Palhaço Frente ao Espelho (2019), a simple, touching and often almost moving book, which analyzes the human being naked and in the mirror, without contemplation or convenience, in a disarming, sensitive and profound writing, which portrays us as a whole, and O tempo entre os nossos dedos (2022), a sweeping and absolutely touching novel that deals philosophically with the time that escapes us, the one that disappears in an instant and that we can no longer recover, the same that “licks us away”, inexorably and dragging.
